NEWS -April 10, 08

Trails are still open.

Hello MCCSC members,

Well, it's my least favorite time of year - the end of the ski season. So that means it's also time to move all our equipment out of the chalet so the golfers can move in.  If you still have things in your lockers- you have until Saturday morning to remove them.

So in order to move out things - we require volunteers to help load up the trailer's and move things into the groomer building.  The work crew will meet at the chalet at 10am this Saturday, April 12th.  The more people who show up to help - the easier it will be.  As an added bonus, we will provide free chilli and soup.  The only catch is you have to bring your own bowls (ours are stored in boxes)! It is recommended that you wear old clothes and work gloves.

The club is requesting nominations for the Don Banks Memorial Volunteer of the Year award. This award is given annually in memory of Don Banks. Don gave of his time and effort to the many organizations in Marathon over the years; he became involved with the ski club through his children's involvement. He will be fondly remembered for his good humour and dedication to the job at hand.

Submissions are due by April 30th.  Please include the name of the person you are nominating, as well as your name (ie. Nominated by) along with reasons for nomination. Please submit nominations in a sealed envelope to:

The Cross Country Ontario annual general meeting will be held in Thunder Bay this year, from May 2-4th. The meeting will consist of:

a meeting of the CCO Board of Directors;

Annual General Meeting;

annual Coaches’ Workshop;

a Club Development Workshop.

LTAD (long term athlete development) Presentation by Dr. Istvan Balyi

All of these sessions will be open to all interested participants and observers.  Any interested MCCSC members please notify me (you can go to all or just some of the sessions). It is an excellent opportunity to learn about the youth programs, the structure of CCO, the High performance aspects, as well as a way to meet individuals from all over Ontario who are involved in skiing. MCCSC and LSSD will help offset the cost of travel.

While I'm on the topic of AGM's, the Marathon Cross Country ski club will have it's annual general meeting on May 21st at 7:30. Location TBA.  We are looking for new volunteers to join the executive and fill other roles within the club.  The elected positions within the executive include the president, vice-president, secretary, and treasurer. If you are interested in taking on either of these positions, or would like to be involved in coaching, coordinating JAckrabbits, event planning, trail maintenance, fundraising etc... PLEASE COME TO THE AGM!:)

That's all for now!

See you on Saturday!
